Old School Blogging: Summertime

Hapuna beach state park

It’s crazy to me that kids are already heading back to school. My kids don’t head back until after Labor Day. How can summer be over? I mean, we haven’t even taken our family vacation yet!

I’m not quite ready to give up summer just yet. But, I’m excited to live with those summer moments a bit longer.

Old School Blogging is back with Elaine from Miss Elaineous Life. It’s a fun way to catch up (and get un-stuck). Won’t you join? Just answer the questions below!

What was your favorite thing you did alone this summer?
Going to my high school reunion and having a chance to hang out with old friends as well as some new friends.

What was your favorite thing you did as a family this summer?
Well, technically we haven’t done it yet but we are headed to Maine for a family vacation soon! Aside from a weekend camping trip about 10 years ago, I have spent time there. I’m looking forward to getting away from the city and smelling the trees and the beach.

What books did you read this summer?
The Fault in Our Stars, Now I See You, The Secret Race, Four: A Divergent Story Collection (a collection of four mini-books)…I think that’s all? Huh, that’s actually six more books than I thought I read.

What do you WISH you had done this summer?
More beach time and surf time. More time just saying yes and enjoying the summer days with my family.

What movies did you see this summer (if any)?
I think we only watched one movie in the theatre this summer – 22 Jump Street. Don’t judge. It was funny.

Where did you travel this summer?
San Francisco to hang out with family and for the SF 1st Half Marathon. New Jersey to visit my in-laws. Boston area for my high school reunion. A quickie trip to Baltimore to see Justin Timberlake (literally 15 hours). And soon Maine!

What was your favorite treat (as in dessert) this summer?
Ice cream cones. Watermelon.

What did you celebrate this summer?
My birthday. Finishing the SF 1st Half Marathon and setting a PR. Everett birthday.

Did you grow anything this summer?
My hair? Seriously, it’s getting really long.

What is a favorite post (if you blog) that you wrote this Summer?
I have two favorite posts. The first is one that I wrote to celebrate my birthday – 38 lessons in 38 years. The second is a post that I wrote prior to the SF Half Marathon when I was feeling overwhelmed by negative thoughts and all I wanted to do was fly – 5 tips for overcoming negative thoughts.

What is a favorite photograph that you took this summer?
That’s hard. I think that I have to pick two pictures but they are similar. My kids have always been amused by my yoga photos – how I make us stop in random places and ask one of them to take a picture. Lately, Everett has wanted to be in the picture more and more.

The first one was taken while we were in San Francisco. He said, “Mommy! Look at my downdog under the shade of two tress!” The cutest.

The second photo I really still have no words for it. I mean, what is there to say?

What do you want to do next summer?
I want to take a real summer vacation. I feel like I say that every year. Maybe I do. Kinda like last year’s trip to Hawaii but when I don’t have to worry about any obligations and I can do and read and rest and play and cook.

I love that picture of you and your boys! So great!! This was a great recap but I hate that we always say the same thing (at least I do) about saying “yes” to more time just out there in the world doing nothing with family. Summer is so fleeting and now it’s almost over. Boooo. I want to start again!!
PS – I will also be in Maine this weekend…let’s hope the weather is good!

I am definitely playing along! Maybe Monday or Wednesday.
And on your way to Maine, if you find yourself on 91, come say hi!
I love this and I love reflecting this way. It’s a wonderful version of OSB.

What lovely and adorable photos! So glad you enjoyed your hs reunion. I should have had one last year but no one wanted to plan it…or maybe I just wasn’t invited :)
