This post has been a long time coming, hasn’t it?
But it’s time friends. It’s time to pull the plug on my blog. I’ve been putting off this decision and this post for a very long time.
I started writing in this space almost six years ago. Back in 2011, I had my first experience surfing and quickly became obsessed with the sport. I wanted to read and learn as much as I could, but couldn’t find anything I could relate to. So, I decided to write the stories that I longed to read, to share the experience of learning something completely new.
At the time I was also struggling with who I was and what I wanted to do with my life. I was disenchanted with my work in the nonprofit sector and I felt stuck.
Who knew that pressing publish on a little old blog would change all of that for me?
Who knew that starting a blog would reignite my love of running, spark the possibility of becoming a yoga teacher, open the doors to a new career that I would have never considered, and show me that I am a writer deep-down?
Who knew that you could make real friends on the Internet?
Who knew that there was a whole world of people out there ready to cheer you on before every race and ready to lift you up when you were sidelined (or recovering from knee surgery and shoulder surgery).
I can’t imagine where I would be without this blog and the people I’ve met as a result.
I am so thankful for all of you who have joined me on this funny trip, who have shared a piece of your story with me, and who have let me take up a little piece of your day with my words and photos. I incredibly thankful for all the opportunities that have come my way because of this little old blog too.
But things and life priorities change and I find that my heart just isn’t in it anymore. Maybe it’s the changing world of blogging too. It just feels different now than it did when I started off. I do know that blogging, even though I wasn’t even blogging, felt like a burden hanging over me and it wasn’t making me happy.
So now what?
My priorities are my writing (whatever shape or form that may take) and my family. Run a half marathon in November. Travel. Just live without constantly thinking about how to spin it into a blog post. (OK, that might be a lie because I’m still always looking for story ideas.)
You can still reach me on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook. For now, I do plan on keeping my blog’s Facebook page going with occasional updates and posts. The blog will be up for a while longer since apparently I just renewed my domain and hosting. Duh.
I’d also love if you signed up for my email list if you haven’t already. I toying with the idea of sending an email newsletter (monthly? bi-monthly?) to share some of the best articles I’ve read recently as well as articles I’ve recently written. Maybe a little life update. I promise not to clog your inbox.
Thank you for indulging me over these past few years. Thank you for your support and encouragement. Thank you.
