Oh, Hello 2015. It’s nice to meet you.
The New Year holds so much promise, doesn’t it? It’s bright and shiny – a clean slate to write a whole new story.
But here’s the thing. I’ve felt like I’ve been racing to the New Year, not so much for the fresh start and the opportunity to tackle some massive goals this year (which I do have in mind – ahem sub-2 half marathon). Instead, I’ve been racing to the new year so that I can finally pause, rest and reset.
The past several months have been busy, crazy and stressful between work and travel and family. And it’s evident in how I’ve been treating myself – not enough sleep, trading fruits and vegetables for chips and sweets. While I’ve been running, I haven’t been moving much outside of that.
It’s shown in how I feel overall – run-down, sick and my body doesn’t feel perform well.
So that brings us back to the New Year.
I want to take better care of myself. Starting now.
I’m not usually one to make resolutions because I feel like it kind of sets us for for failure. What if we outgrow our resolutions during the year? What if our life circumstances change? If we don’t achieve a specific goal, does that mean that the whole year was a failure?
Instead, I prefer to choose a word to frame my thoughts, intentions and actions for the year and to help me focus on the bigger picture. (I’ll share my word for 2015 next week.) In order to move towards that bigger picture, I try to take action each day to start shifting my habits towards a healthier path.
- Eat Real Food
- Move More (outside of dedicated exercise sessions)
- Sleep Well
That’s why I’m really excited to partner with Garmin and Whole Foods Market as part of their #PathToFit campaign. Whole Foods will help me clean up my nutrition by offering up a virtual rainbow of fruits and vegetables and high quality dairy, fish, poultry and other products. Garmin has sent me a vívofit to monitor my steps, periods of movement, calories, and sleep.
I’m excited to start on my #PathToFit. Having that solid foundation in place will help to set me up for success in the other areas of my life – yoga, running, writing, and family. And I have a good feeling about 2015.
Over the next six weeks, I’ll be writing weekly about my experience and I’d love for you to join me! Use the hashtag #PathToFit on social media to share your goals and progress.
Next week, I’ll be giving away a vívofit and a Whole Foods gift card to help you start the year off right so be sure to stay tuned on the blog and social media.
Do you make resolutions? What do you hope to focus on this year on your #PathToFit?

This post is the first in a series of six posts that I’m doing in partnership with Whole Foods and Garmin to share my #PathToFit this year. As compensation, I received Whole Foods gift cards and a Garmin vívofit, both of which I’m using to create the content for this series. All views and opinions expressed are 100% my own.
