I want a JCORE Body!

This week marks four months since my knee surgery. Has it really been four months already? Sometimes it feels like surgery was so long ago and I feel like I should be able to do all the things that I want to do. Other times, surgery feels like it wasn’t so long ago, especially when I tire easily or I can’t quite sit cross-legged on the floor.

I have to admit that it’s frustrating when you have the desire to do move and you physically can’t, especially when fitness and physical activity is a big piece of who you are and how you cope with life’s many stressors. And, having battled body image and disordered eating issues, I’d be lying if I said that body image wasn’t a big part of my frustration with the injury and recovery process.

Now, with my physical therapy progressing, I’m able to workout more but I feel like my routine needs a jumpstart. It’s been a while since I’ve really focused on anything from my lower body that I almost don’t even know where to start so I was really excited to hear about the JCORE Accelerated Body Transformation System

It’s a 40-day program created by Jay Cardiello, a celebrity fitness trainer (he’s trained 50 Cent!!), wellness expert and author. All you need is a 4×4 space, no weights and 20 minutes a day/4 days a weeks. As a working mom with two young kids, my time (and space here in NYC) is a premium. In order to fit fitness into my life, I need to be able to make the most of the time that I do have to work out. JCORE seems like a good fit for me.

When I was initially considering the program, I had several questions about the workouts and if they were suitable for me given my injury and rehab. I wasn’t expecting Jay to respond to my email personally. He assured me that JCORE was designed to accomodate all levels of fitness and all lifestyles and that the routines are demonstrated at a modified and intense pace so you can work at your own pace. Plus, he has had 13 major surgeries – 6 of them knee surgeries – and understood my concerns which provided an enormous level of comfort.

I started the program yesterday with the Fit Test – basically a test to see how many reps you can complete of 10 different moves. Sunday’s test will serve as my baseline and I will repeat this test four more times over the course of the 40 days to track my improvement. Let me tell you, while the whole test took about 15 minutes, it was HARD! Seemingly simple moves challenged my body in ways I wasn’t expecting. By the end, I was sweating and breathing hard. I can’t wait to see what the rest of the program has in store.

I missed out on last week’s Weekly Chase but I am returning this week. A couple of weeks ago, my goal was to focus on getting more sleep. I was doing well with that one…until I started reading Divergent and then Insurgent (Book 2 in the series). Now that I’m done with both books and since Book 3 doesn’t come out until May, I should be able to sleep again.

My other goal for the week is to complete week 1 of JCORE and to improve my eating habits. JCORE includes suggested meal plans. I’ve never been great at strictly following any diet plan so I know that there will be some flexibility to make this work for me. At the same time, I know that diet and nutrition are a key part of this if I want to achieve the results I want to see.

    Oh my goodness! I am so intrigued by this workout! Not to mention, that is so great of you to still get out there and find a way to stay fit given your circumstances! You are truly an inspiration!

      Thanks Kacie! I’m excited to get started with this workout too. After just two days, I can tell it’s going to be good and hard. Mainly because it’s challenging my body in a different way, particularly working on my core and balance. Will keep you posted!

    I have never heard of JCORE, but it sounds great. Especially with time requirements (and space). Seems really reasonable. I’m interested to hear how you find it!

      Yes! The space, time and lack of equipment requirements are definitely what drew me to the program. I’ll be posting some more updates as I continue along.

      I’m excited too and I will definitely be posting some updates. I think that it’s great, especially for parents, since it is only 20 minutes a day. I did my workout while my kids were taking a bath (supervised by grandma!)

    I am getting a little antsy with my yoga and running only fitness routine. JCORE sounds appealing to me since you don’t need weights (I am a firm believer in the power of body resistance) and only a small space.

    I can’t wait to hear how it goes for you! I may hop on board!

      I too really like that it doesn’t require equipment and seems pretty manageable. I love trying different strength training routines so I’m excited to try this one out. Will definitely keep you posted!

    I haven’t heard of this, but it sounds pretty neat and it fits into your needs right now! FOUR months have passed already? damn, where does time go! You look great, btw, just so you know, you would never know you were recovering from a knee injury!!

      Totally doable, right? Over the 40 days, it works out to 8 hours total. What??! Seems crazy and my skeptical side started kicking in but man, he works you in those 20 minutes.

    JCORE sounds awesome! I’ve never heard of it! So glad you are linking back up in the Weekly Chase! I read Divergent and Insurgent too…LOVE those books!!! Hope you get your rest this week! And good luck with the eating!

    I’m thinking this JCORE thing may be perfect for Chris and I to give a try. We have the space but I am not a gym girl and Chris doesn’t really have the time and when he does, he is either playing with girls, sailing, kayaking or biking. (all good things but he wants to mix it up a bit)
    We had a great weekend. Yesterday we spent the day out on a friend’s boat with their girls and our girls and it was a lot of fun with a lot of laughs!

      It definitely seems like JCORE meets so many people’s needs especially with regard to the time, space and lack of equipment required. I’m excited to see how it goes and to mix things up. Your weekend sounds so nice!!

    Can’t wait to see your progress! It sounds like a cool program. Recovery sure is frustrating, but you have been doing great! Just keep at it, and remember to take time and recognize all the progress you have made so far.

    I’m excited to see how it goes for you! I saw JCORE at some point, maybe on the Fitfluential blog? Can’t remember. I signed up for Tina’s Boot camp which should be a fun challenge, too. I’m so much better at strength training if someone is holding me accountable and telling me what to do!

    You have to keep us posted! I love the idea of a 20 minute workout. I’m a big fan of the short and sweet HITT workouts. This sounds like something that can easily fit into a busy schedule (and a small space).

    Never heard of JCORE but it sounds interesting! Love the workout plan and that it incorporate healthy eating as well. Looking forward to hearing what you think of it!

      I can tell you that after 2-3 days of doing the program, I’m sore! It’s hard but totally manageable since it’s only 20 minutes. I think that the hardest part for me is cleaning up my eating habits. I’ll definitely keep you posted!

      I too an terrible at reading actual books but have recently been on a kick. I love getting lost in a story. Divergent was so good! I seriously couldn’t put it down and it was definitely interfering with my life. JCORE is pretty good and I’m liking it so far. I’ll do a real review halfway through the program and at the end.
