High Five Friday

Happy Friday Friends!

Is it me or does summer feel very hectic? Or maybe it’s just my kids’ camp schedules? It feels like there’s more to prepare for their day at camp then at school and then the attendant unpacking/washing/rinsing out swim clothes/etc. at the end of the day.

Or maybe it’s because the SF Half Marathon is 2 weeks away? And my runs are taking more of my time?

Training has been interesting the last two weeks. I had a horrible long run last Wednesday (super hot and humid and a flare-up of my plantar fasciitis). It was supposed to be 12 miles but I barely eecked out 10 miles. I contemplated dropping out of the half. It was that bad, especially in my head.

But then, maybe I needed to get that bad run out of my system. I’ve had strong runs since – a hill workout, a progression run and then finally 12-miles earlier this week. PHEW.

P.S. I need new music for a running playlist. Suggestions??

Five Photos {PS are you following me on Instagram? Please do!}

High Five Friday

  1. Ahhhhh, beach sunsets. There’s nothing like. I’ve been reminiscing about our beach vacations. This picture was from our vacation in Montauk a few summers ago.
  2. After last week Wednesday’s botched long run, my coach Jess had a hill workout on my schedule for last Friday. 2 mile warm-up, 9 x hill repeats and 2 mile cool-down. I admit, I was really skeptical about heading out on Friday (totally overthinking things) and really worried about my foot. But it was a good, solid run - 9.16 miles.
  3. We spent the 4th of July weekend down at my in-laws in South Jersey. I headed out for an easy 6-mile run on Sunday morning and did a bit of post-run yoga and played around with this twisty low lunge variation.
  4. I ran across this bridge on my run. I literally stopped in my tracks and began thinking about what yoga pose I could do on the bridge. After my run, I got in my car and drove back to the bridge in order to take a picture!
  5. A Hump Day variation of camel pose. Plus, I wanted to show off my new leggings from Altar Ego which are gorgeous. The print is of one of Degas’ paintings – one of my favorite artists. I’ll have more about Altar Ego in another post but use the code cyu888 for 15% your order.

Five Good Reads

Once again, I’m a bit behind in my blog reading. If I haven’t gotten around to your blog, I promise I’m on my way!! Here are some great reads that I came across this week.

  1. Training with a New FocusI love this beautiful post from Erica Sara Reese aka Erica Sara Designs. Erica is expecting her first child and she speaks honestly about running, her experiences with running during pregnancy, and what that means to her. She also has a new coach – Baby Reese.
  2. 8 profound life lessons I learned from a year of soul-searchingLove these lessons. I would love even more if I would take a year and soul search too.
  3. Shonda Rhimes’ Real Talk for Dartmouth Grads: Dreams are for LosersThis post is a little old but I didn’t get to share it with you earlier. It is Shonda Rhimes’ commencement speech at Dartmouth. In case you don’t know, Rhimes is the creator some of my fav TV shows including Scandal and Grey’s Anatomy and this speech is great.
  4. Where We Stand, and FallLindsay has a knack for writing about what’s on my mind and in my heart. In this post, she talks about what many of us can relate to at one point or another – building a foundation to pursue our passion…and getting a little impatient along the way when things don’t come our way as quickly as we would like.
  5. 10 Tricks to Appear Smart During MeetingsTHIS. Absolutely brilliant. I mean, if you’ve ever worked in a corporate environment and if you’ve ever spent the majority of your working hours in meetings, you will totally get this.

Who are you high fiving this week? Suggestions for my running playlist?

High Five Christine! I’m hoping my 12 miler doesn’t turn into a death march today as I can’t meet my friend until 9am!!! We’ll probably melt out there. Nice job on those hill repeats – wow!!
    Song suggestions:
    Glowing – Nikki Williams
How I Feel – Flo Rida
    Lucky Strike – Maroon 5
My Body – Young the Giant
Hope you like at least one of those :-) Happy running!

Oh hate it when I have those types of runs. I’ve had some so bad I literally stopped and pouted like a child telling my husband I was done. Just done, 2 seconds from flailing on the ground. He just stood around with me until I cooled my jets (aka realized I still had to make it back home somehow). There is something so spectacular about beach sunsets!

I put up a playlist on my blog today – I needed new music too so I raided my husband’s itunes account and got some new ideas there. :-)

Wait. You considered dropping out? That would.not.be.allowed. Your husband already ditched a half-marathon with me, remember? :)

And eek for two weeks until SF! I agree about camp. I feel like the prep to get her there with bathing suit, towel, two pairs of shoes, extra clothes, sunscreen slathered on her, bug spray too, and snack/ice water. I am exhausted and then I have to pick her up under three hours later!
And Des always wants to stay there and play with bubbles so I have to drag him kicking and crying out of the schoolyard.
