Blogoversary and Erica Sara Giveaway!

A year ago Sunday, I shared my first post on this blog. It was a post about Kelly Slater and his 11th ASP World Title  win in San Francisco. It’s funny that that experience prompted me to write my first blog post but I really wanted to share what I was learning about surfing as I’ve tried to pick up the sport later in life. Since then, my blog has branched out into many different directions.

I thought that this week would be all about celebrating my first year of blogging. I have two fun giveaways planned. However, I’ve been feeling off-track lately with the impact of Hurricane Sandy still fresh and palpable in and around New York City. It seems a bit frivolous to go on with giveaways at a time like this.

But the more I thought about it, the more I thought the giveaway could be an opportunity to not only thank all of you who have supported me over the past year, but also to support the rebuilding and recovery efforts post-Sandy and a wonderful small business owner in NYC.

So that’s what I’m going to do.

Erica Sara Designs custom necklace

My lovely ESD mantra necklace. I love it. I wear it all the time and it always brings me calm, peace and confidence.

When I first thought about doing a giveaway, I kept coming back to one thing – Erica Sara’s gorgeous handmade jewelry. I have one of her mantra necklaces and I absolutely adore it. I have two charms on my necklace – my personal mantra (Paddle Paddle) and a charm for the NYC Triathlon – the race I’m most proud of finishing.

One lucky reader will win a custom mantra necklace (or its equivalent).

Erica is an incredibly kind person and I am happy to support her as a small business owner. She will be donating a portion of proceeds from ESD’s Marathon race bling to the Sandy Relief Efforts, retroactive to Monday, October 29th and through the holiday season. This includes ALL race jewelry.

There are several ways to enter the giveaway and the giveaway closes on Monday, November 12 at 8pm EST. Open to U.S. Residents only.

For every giveaway entry I receive, I will donate $1 towards Hurricane Sandy relief efforts up to $1,000.

Mandatory Entry

100% of every donation to the Brooklyn Recovery Fund will be used to support storm recovery efforts in Brooklyn. The Fund aids the Brooklyn communities and organizations impacted by Hurricane Sandy and will provide direct support for need identified by local Brooklyn nonprofit service providers, the small business community and borough civic institutions.

  • Comment on this blog post on how you plan to help in the recovery and/or give back to your own community. See below for some other resources and ideas to help in Hurricane Sandy relief efforts.

Additional Entries

  • Tweet about the giveaway – “Enter to win a @ericasara custom mantra necklace. Every entry = $1 towards #SandyRelief via @cyu888″. Leave a separate comment on this blog post that you have done so.
  • Follow me on Instagram (@cyu888) and leave a separate comment on this blog post that you have done so (or if you already do) with your Instagram handle.
  • Pin one Erica Sara Designs piece to Pinterest and leave a separate comment on this blog post that you have done so.

Please help me support the rebuilding of the city I call home and that I love dearly. I want to donate $1,000. Will you help me spread the word?

{I purchased a gift certificate for this giveaway with a generous discount from Erica Sara Designs. All opinions and thoughts are 100% my own.}

There are many ways that you can support Sandy relief efforts from near and far away. Here is a list of organizations that are providing direct relief and services to communities and residents affected by the Hurricane.

Of course. You are amazing for doing it. I know how hard you’ve worked for this. It’s the least I can do to help spread the word about all the efforts being organized.

I have a lot of family affected by this so I plan to help by just continuing to listen to them and find the ways in which they need me to help!

This is such an incredibly generous way of giving back, Christine. I am in awe of your generosity. Girl, you know I follow you all over the place :) I will tweet this until the cows come home just to keep that generosity train going! You’re amazing. Oh, and I am organizing a drive with Jess for our friend Jen whose family lost everything in Sandy down in Staten Island. Our stuff goes down on Wednesday :) Hoping it helps them get back on their feet.

I think this is an absolutely great giveaway! I applaud your efforts in providing for your community. I wanted to give blood, but was turned away because of recent traveling to a “high risk” country. But there are so many other available options. Happy Blogiversary! And many kudos again. I sure you will reach your goal of $1000 very quickly!

Happy Bloversary! I am organizing a fundraiser for the victims of Hurricane Sandy at my high school. Students can pay $5 to wear jeans (instead of a uniform). All proceeds will go to Catholic Relief Services earmarked for those in need after the storm. We did this a few years ago with Hats for Haiti and it was a smashing success. You are an inspiration! Thanks.

This is an amazing idea!! I plan on making a Red Cross donation. Last weekend my friend’s family successfully left NYC to make it to her wedding out here in Phoenix. It took a lot of help and planning from volunteers, but they made it and we were so grateful!

This is an awesome idea! You are so sweet!
A group of my girlfriends and I are taking canned foods to OBX where they lost their food pantry for the community. We are also helping collect gloves, hats, blankets and gift cards to go with our friend to hand out to people in the Lindenhurst area.

I am participating in some virtual races where the money goes to Sandy relief. Also, I have donated clothes and other supplies to families in need. Lastly, I opened my home (I live in CT) to those of my neighbors and friends without power during this storm, after I was thankful last year when others did this for me when I had no power for 10 days.

Thank you for doing this! I’m a fellow Rockaway surfer, Brooklynite, runner, and triathlete. I volunteered in Staten Island and the devastation is beyond comprehension. These are people, like you and me, who lost absolutely everything in one short evening.

  16. says

This is so thoughtful of you! I love the concept! I have a few friends who were in NYC and the east coast during the storm so I am trying to help them in all the large and small ways possbile.

162 comments…holy cow! Ok, I remember seeing you wear this necklace in B’more and recall thinking to myself, “I really need to find a necklace like Christine’s!” I loved it! Going about registering now.

As far as what we’re doing, we’re giving clothes to those in need in Staten Island. We’ve also been donating $$ to some of our friend’s who have lost their homes. We’ve also given to our neighbor from NJ whose town was also devastated in the storm. We’ll be heading to Staten Island soon to lend a hand where needed.

This is an incredible effort you’ve put together!

What a great idea! I am a huge fan of Erica Sara Designs jewelry and think it’s great she is part of your sandy relief efforts. I volunteered already last Sunday in Stateb Island with the Runners for Staten Island. we donated food, clothing and other essentials to people in need, as well as helped clean up debris from people’s lawns and houses. I am also co-hosting a fundraiser this Tuesday night with the other people that I met last weekend at wine bar in NYC and all proceeds will go to Hurricane Sandy Relief.

I am collecting pjs and books for “operation bedtime”. Kids feel safe(r) when snuggled up in bed with a loved one reading a book. So we are collecting bedtime bundles and will be sending them to the Jersey Shore.

Great giveaway, and I love Erica’s stuff too! She’s so talented. I’ve helped in recovery efforts by donating multiple bags and boxes to relief centers, and to a friend who lost everything in the storm. I’m also doing NYC Running Mama’s Race for Recovery!
