Pressing Refresh

Do you remember when you were a kid, how the summer seemed to last forever? The days were kind of deliciously long? By the time that school rolled around, I was worn out by my days playing outside, exploring and swimming and playing with friends. I was excited to go back to school and felt refreshed.

So far, my summer has felt like the complete opposite. I thought that I was going to fully appreciate and enjoy summer this year. I was looking forward to work slowing down so that I could do fun things with my family and be present more.

The reality is that summer has gotten a bit out of my control and I’ve felt like I’ve been a lot less intentional about my actions and I haven’t been connecting my head and my heart. I’m also physically, mentally and emotionally spent. I’m not sure how or why that happened but it did.

Given that there’s about a month left of summer, I’m determined to take back my summer. I feel like I need to press the restart button or maybe just the refresh button. I’m inspired by Lindsay, Lindsay and Kierston.

I’m taking a summer vacation. I need to say no more (and yes more to my kids) and refocus on my priorities. I want to read something other than my computer. I want to dig my feet into the sand.

For the next couple of weeks, I’m going to be stepping back from blogging and social media and unplug as much as possible. Well, at least I’m going to try. OK, chances are that I will continue to post on Instagram. I don’t plan on blogging unless there’s something that I really want to share. That’s the way it should be right?

I’ll be back for sure in September. Be sure to follow on Bloglovin’ or email so you don’t miss a post!

Until then…

Well said. You are so right about the need to unplug – one of my goals for the year was “social media-free Sundays” one day a month with no internet or tv…and I didn’t make it past January with those goals! I’m going to try to follow your lead and unplug while the summer is still here.

Summer is for refreshing….refresh away friend! Enjoy every single minute of saying no to everyone but your kids. That is unless they want to do something really, really crazy that could mean jail time for you. ;)

I have often wondered just how you do it. You are ALWAYS reading, sharing commenting, creating great content–it blows my mind. As my summer got busier, I ended up naturally stepping back a little, and not being as involved in the community, but there was always this sense of guilt–this sense that others could keep it all together, and I should too. I’m SO glad you are taking this time for yourself, and I can’t wait until you return, because you are one of my very favorites. xoxo

Good for you Christine! A blog holiday will be good. I don’t blog as often as you due to wanting down time and not having the flexibility of being self-employed or able to blog at work, but regardless, whenever I’m on vacation, I don’t blog and I don’t run. Vacation means to truly get away from the stresses and PRESSURES of real life.

    ENJOY!!!!!!!!!!!!

I once wrote a post called, “The Refresh” and I’d say it to the tune of the song, “The Reflex.” Everyone needs one. I’m sure I do and I’m getting one soon enough. Go reclaim your summer and drink it all in. I will certainly be here when you come back.

I agree. Summer is flying by. How is it August? Oh my. My birthday is in August which is awesome, but it always means that summer is coming to an end kind of soon…Summer tends to stick around until late Sept in Seattle.
