Can we just get one things clear? I love fall. I mean, look…
Those colors. Those textures. Those sounds (especially the crunchy leaves). That sky. I’m not even going to describe each of these five favorite pictures from my Instagram feed this week. I just wanted to show you all that gorgeous and delicious color.
Old School Blogging – Pie & Other Fall Things
What is your favorite Halloween candy?
Mini Kit Kats. And the mini bags of Skittles. I try to steal those from my kids’ loot.
What is one of the worst “treats” you ever received in your candy bag?
I remember getting an apple one year but I used to hate getting Tootsie Rolls in my bag. I hated Tootsie Rolls and that seemed like the thing that just about everyone gave out.
What was one of your favorite costumes you wore when you were a kid?
I dressed up as a witch for several years in a row. There was something about dressing up as an “evil” character that I loved. Maybe because I was always Miss Goody Two Shoes.
But my favorite was my toga costume. I can’t remember how old I was in this picture but I loved it. I remember wearing it to a Halloween party at school. I also remember winning the Jell-O eating contest and the older boys running the contest being absolutely astonish at the speed with which I ate that Jell-O.
How about your favorite costume as an adult?
I have to admit that Halloween is not my favorite holiday. I don’t dress up as an adult. Except for Jasper’s first Halloween because let’s face it — one of the perks of having a kid is being able to dress them up in funny costumes. This year, the whole family dress up. Jasper was a piece of fatty tuna sushi, I was a waitress in a Japanese restaurant and Ed was a bottle of Kikkoman soy sauce.
What scares you most on Halloween? Spiders? Zombies? Axe murderers? Eyeballs in a jar… (or something else)?
Axe murderers and other weird freaky people
So then, what is your favorite scary movie??
Poltergeist. I can’t type that word without shivers running up and down my spine. I’m totally going to have nightmares now because I thought of that movie.
What is you favorite part of the Thanksgiving meal?
The sides. And pie.
What is your favorite piece of clothing or accessory to wear in the Fall?
Skinny jeans (preferably colored) and boots (or flats) and scarves.
What is your favorite pie? If you do not like pie I will forgive you but then what is your favorite Fall dessert?
I LOVE pie, particularly fruit-based pies especially apple and strawberry rhubarb. I do not like custardy pies. You can keep your pumpkin pie thank you very much.
Do you live where there are four seasons? If so, where is your favorite place to see the fall colors?
Hooray for four seasons! I think that’s one reason why we still live where we live. Aside from seeing the glorious colors in Central and Prospect Park, we love seeing the colors outside the city near the Catskills, whether on a hike or picking apples.
What is your favorite fall tradition?
Apple picking is by far my favorite fall tradition. I love spending the day in the orchards. And then coming home and trying to figure out what to do with all those apples.
Is there anything else special about the Fall to you?
And in case you thought I’ve completely forgotten about Friday Round-Up, here it is!

Krysten is one amazing and inspiring person. I so appreciated her honesty in this post, about how we carry grief and carry on.
YES. A thousand times yes.
The Productivity of Being Non-Productive from Being Minimalist
Holy moly. I’ve had a really hard time being “productive” this week. I’m convinced that it’s all part of the creative cycle – there are going to be periods of down. And I’m embracing this notion discussed here — that being non-productive is essential to being productive.
