Sick Day

green smoothie

I’m calling a sick day today. I started feeling a little off on Friday, more so on Saturday and basically did not change out of my pajamas on Sunday. I slept about 10 hours on Saturday night + about 4 hours in naps during the day on Sunday. Yeah, clearly I’m sick and my body is telling me that I need rest.

And I can’t stop coughing. I think that’s the worst part. I’m afraid I’m going to crack a rib or pull a muscle with all this coughing.

I don’t mean to complain but honestly, I’m done with winter. I think that this is the third or fourth time that I’ve been really sick this year? It’s beyond frustrating. Anyhow, I’m trying not to get too down about it all since there’s not much that I can do about it except rest, drink green smoothies and rest some more. Maybe this means I won’t get sick for the rest of the year?

On a positive note, I registered to go to BLEND Retreat in May! It’s a weekend get-together for healthy living, fitness and food bloggers and really just a chance to get to meet some of your blogger friends in real life and to hang out. I’m so excited for it. If you want to go, you should register soon. There are only 125 tickets available and prices go up February 17.

How do you take care of yourself when you’re sick? What’s your go-to cold remedy? Are you going to BLEND???

  1. I hope you feel better soon! I was hoping to go to Blend but now that I’ve committed to FitBloggin I don’t think I can swing both. Unless I can find a rich ‘ol sugar daddy before then…working on it!

  3. I hope you feel better soon. Try to rest as much as you can.

If I am sick on the weekends, I am able to get the much needed rest. But if it’s during the week, I just try to power through and rest as much as my kids will let me.

    • Thanks Natalie. I’m trying my best to rest. My husband has been a life saver and letting me sleep while he takes care of the kids.

  8. Oh no! Rest up… I had it last week, not fun at all. But sometimes our bodies have to force us to slow down for it to happen. :) I’m so excited that you’re going to Blend!! I’ll live vicariously through you, and you’ll have to report back all about it!

BTW – super jealous you are going to Blend! I wanted to but we’ve got a family wedding that weekend plus it’s our 11th anniversary. Hubs probably wouldn’t appreciate me jetting off for a weekend away with bloggers! ;-)

  16. I hope you feel better soon! Lately, I mainly seem to get sick right before some big athletic endeavor that I can’t get out of – so I’d have to say that I stack up on meds and kleenex, hop in the relay van, and stay up all night, much to Mom’s dismay. Barring that, I reach for canned chicken soup, gargle salt/turmeric water, and hit the sack.

I am not going to Blend, but I am going to CONFAB. Pretty psyched: http://confabevents.com/events/minneapolis-2013

  22. Bummer! I hope you feel better soon Christine. At least you are listening to your body and resting. I’ve been reading this series on natural remedies for colds and the like on Bridget’s blog ( http://itsahuntlife.blogspot.com/search/label/natural%20first%20aid%20kit ). I’ve tried spreading garlic on my feet during a cold with some success (I know, that sounds really weird). You should check it out though.

  23. Feel better soon. I always keep a nalgene of water, a cup of 1/2 oj 1/2 water and a cup of black tea with me. I have a hard time keeping hydrated when I am sick so I make sure I always have liquids.

I really want to attend Blend but cannot afford the plane tickets & hotel in addition to the blend ticket. I am so sad, this is one that I desperately want to go to.

  26. I’m pretty bad at taking care of myself when I’m sick, my husband basically has to force me to slow down and rest. But my go to cold remidies are to not take any cold meds so that my body feels the full affect of the cold and I rest when my body is telling me to. I also drink tons of water and do a Vitamin C flush: take 10,000mg of Vit C over a 24hr period. I also take Vit D and drink lots of Bolthouse Farms Green Goodness Juice and Vit C Boost. Seems to help: shortens the length of the cold and keeps me generally healthy when everyone else is down.
Sarah @RunFarGirl recently posted..Thank YouMy Profile

    • Thank you Sarah. I used to do vitamin C flushes but didn’t think of it this time. Will have to up my Vit C intake. My husband has been forcing me to rest too which has been hard but I know ultimately good for me. Fingers crossed that this goes away soon!

  27. Hang in there but watch that cough. I did crack a rib and it’s PAINFUL! Rest, rest, rest.
katie recently posted..Push Gifts for FitMomsMy Profile

    • I seriously thought I was going to crack a rib last night or give myself a hernia with all this coughing. It’s no fun!! I’ve been in bed pretty much all day so that’s helped. Hoping tomorrow is a bit better.

  28. Oh no!!! Feel better! Hot tea and a bath always help me!! Rest up and don’t feel guilty for resting. You need it!!

  29. Feel better soon! A mama’s sickness never is properly treated (or fully goes away, right?).

Blend sounds awesome and I wish I could go. If I get my blog to where I want it to be, maybe next year.

Sending you some fight for that immune system!

That sounds like an awesome retreat!!

  36. Bummer, sorry you’re sick!! I hope you can get over the cough–those are so miserable! When I’m sick I am horrible about taking care of myself; I’ll admit. I drag myself to work and spread germs everywhere.
    jan recently posted..FunnyMy Profile

  37. Aw! I hope you feel better soon! It seems like both flu and bronchitis are much worse this year. My mother was on vocal rest for weeks after a horrible bronchitis bout that led to other infections, and then my husband’s aunt was diagnosed with pneumonia. If we get another week like last week (snow & then ice and temps near 0) then I’ll definitely be ready for Spring.
