This is what New York City has looked like this past week.

This is where my husband is. Remember that surf trip I wanted to take? Yes, well, he’s there and I’m here.

Nosara Costa Rica

’nuff said? I thought so.

OK, so that’s not entirely true. I don’t feel resentment towards my husband so maybe I’m not jealous of my husband. I’m glad that he’s there and that he gets a chance to surf and enjoy some down time. Plus, I did get to have my own surf vacation alone last year so I can’t really complain, right?

P.S. Thank you all so much for your thoughtful comments on my post yesterday. I know that it’s all part of being human and feeling like a hypocrite is largely a result of me being a perfectionist and overanalyzing. I guess part of the reason that I was frustrated was being I feel (felt?) so stuck in that funk and felt like I was falling back on old habits. Writing the post helped and I definitely feel lighter. There – see?? I’m releasing…

Do you take vacations alone or have dedicated girls’ or guys’ weekends?

  1. Just recently started doing “girlfriend weekends” but barely once a year. My husband has a camping weekend but I usually enjoy a bit of solo time at home. It’s more business trips that take us away for longer. He was in Key West for a conference while we had Hurricane Sandy.

  3. Oh mann I’m jealous of your husband, too! It’s been so dreary here.

I’m actually taking a girl’s weekend this month! A friend and I are headed out to visit a college friend. Leaving the BF behind and looking forward to quality ladies’ catch-up time.

  7. Ha, you might have read my post last week about Jealousy? If not, I do know what you mean! I tend to be more of a traveler and trip taker than my fiance so I naturally do more stuff — though a lot of times I get to go places on work trips. Sometimes I wish he would do a guy weekend because it would be good for him to have some fun (he is studying for the CPA nonstop!) Anyway….I’m trying to get rid of jealousy in y life these days, it does NOT help! :)

  8. I haven’t been on a vacation in quite some time. The last time was a weekend away with Alison from Racingtales, we went to CO and ran the Bolder Boulder 10K last May. We stayed with my sister who lives there.. it was a quick trip… but fun, we met Kara Goucher! Come out here on a vaca and surf the Pacific!

  9. Um, I might be jealous of your hubby too! I’ve never really taken a girls’ only trip. My husband has done boys’ only camping trips (with his dad and brother), and my sister would come stay with me. But I think in May I’ll be going to LA with my sis and one other friend.

  12. I’d be a big on the jealous side, I think! But like you said, it usually all balances out. Most of my girls getaways are to races, actually. We love to travel in a pack and run our races, then enjoy some time after. And I’d have to admit that it’s a bit skewed in my favor between my husband and me–he doesn’t really ask to do guys weekends very often. (don’t let him in on the secret!)

  13. Chris and I have talked about taking a boys trip or girls trip but haven’t done it yet. I do get jealous if he is out doing something fun and I am home with Em. However, I know I need to get over it because he lets me do my own thing all the time.

  16. I’m not married so it’s not my place to talk but I can understand what you mean that you’re jealous I bet I would be too. I mean.. it’s hard not to be especially when you compare these two places together like that. Who WOULDN’T choose bright sunny and warm next to gloomy rainy and chilly? Yeah, exactly. But I DO think it’s good to have times apart from the one you live with for a while, although short, becuase it can rekindle passion and make you miss them so that you appreciate your time together more. Again, speaking theoretically, don’t know if that’s how it actually works but it’s what I think would work. I guess I’ll find out in the future!

  17. Oh man, I wish I were there too! It looks beautiful!!!! We haven’t take much vacation period lately…over the summer we went to VT (hubs had a work trip so we all went) and then to Portland for a family wedding. We are trying to plan a mini-vacation in the not-so-distant future (maybe another few months)…fingers crossed =)

  19. I would love a girls weekend! I rarely get away alone… Fitbloggin was the only time this past year. J travels a bit more for work, but it’s not usually a “fun” trip. :) Some girlfriends and I have been talking about a weekend together… we really need to make it happen!

  23. Come to think of it, I haven’t had a “girls” vacation or a trip alone since the bf and I got together almost2 years ago. So far, we have enjoyed all of our adventures together, but I think that solitary time is needed. I also get that pang of jealousy whenever he has a trip lined up that I can’t go on. Somehow I always end up going (unless it’s a work thing), I guess I have a good pouty face? :)

  24. I think the last girl’s trip I took was senior year in college. So about 9 years ago in a month and a half. lol I do have a fabulous best friend who makes a trip down here to see me every six months, and has done so for 9 years, so I do get girl time. However, I’m still big on being at home/on vacation with the kids. I love seeing their faces when we do new things together.

I do plan on making a trip to Chicago with my best friend this spring/summer, just the two of us. :)
