Friday Round-Up: Live.Strong

Supine Twist

So that picture above there? Yeah, that’s kind of how I’m feeling after almost a week with my husband away on a fun surf trip. DONE. Just need to make it through 2 more days. So let’s make this a short and sweet post.

Oh! I also had a chance to witness some amazing athletes in Times Square yesterday. Think mud, barbed wire, climbing ropes and flipping tires. I’ll have more on that this weekend so be sure to come back!

Lance Armstrong
Lots of folks are talking about Lance and his “will he/won’t he” admit to doping on Oprah. Did you watch the interview? I didn’t as I was busy escaping reality and watching Grey’s Anatomy. These are two my favorite posts that I’ve come across about the whole situation. Heather at Run Faster Mommy talks about why she will continue to wear her Livestrong bracelet and what it means to her. Gigi at Kludgy Mom wrote an Open Letter to Lance Armstrong. Each approaches the topic from a different perspective but both are extremely powerful.

No. 100: For Everyone Who Ever Accused Me of “Acting White”: Thank You
This post from Maribel at Food4ThoughtNYC captures all the messy and complicated feelings and thoughts around identity and culture growing up as a first-generation American. When you have one foot planted in one culture/world and the other foot planted in another culture/world, will you ever be enough?

doing hard
Seems like I’m not the only one who’s been struggling lately. I love this honest and open post from Jess at Pace of Me. She talks about how she faces and fights through her struggles by doing hard.

Stress Management for a Healthy Lifestyle
Speaking of stress, Melanie paints a picture that I know all to well – stressful situation + kids = negative impact on my eating. How do you manage stress?

What to Do with a Bad Pitch
OK, this post is totally unrelated the others above but it’s such a great post for all you bloggers out there both who want to and who currently do work with companies and brands. Shells tells you exactly what to do with that bad pitch.

Have you read any of these posts? Any good posts that I missed? What’s your take on the Lance Armstrong doping situation?

  1. I get the pressure to preform… but he seems like such a nice boy (to quote my mom). LOL! Seriously, it’s sad that people feel like their best isn’t enough. He probably would have been great without it.

  5. I didn’t watch the interview (catching up on Nashville – bigger priorities!) since I knew it would be all over the media today. My thoughts? Sadly, I don’t think Lance is the first or last person to do performance enhancing drugs. It’s everywhere not just cycling.

    Thanks for the blogging tips!

Have a fab weekend! Happy Friday!

  7. Great links and as always so much great information out there! Lance is such a huge disappointment. In the beginning I was so sure of his no-doping claims. Maybe that’s what I wanted to believe and just didn’t see it for what it was.

  8. I taped the interview b/c I knew I’d fall asleep watching it, but I did watch about 30 minutes worth. I was his biggest fan and have since changed my opinion (I read the Secret Race). Anyhow, I have to say I think he handled the questions pretty well–I thought he might be a bit cocky and go for a scorched earth approach and that didn’t seem to be the case.

Off to check out your recommended posts–always love them!

  16. Weekends like what your husband is doing are great and much needed for both. Its exhausting but being a team player will make your relationship stronger but I can’t imagine what it’s like with 2 munchkins.

    Have a great weekend!

  17. Thanks so much for posting my piece! I love that picture you posted. It’s pretty much how I feel right now. Can never get enough rest. Which is why I missed the interview between Lance and Oprah. The soundbites I heard on the news alone make my head spin. Ugh, what a guy. I’m making a point of reading those 2 posts that you linked here to get their perspective. Happy Friday!

  18. Great links!!! I really loved Heather’s post about Live Strong! So true!

  19. I don’t have cable TV, so I was unable to watch #Doprah but it’s all sad to me. The lying, the drugs… I see both sides but it’s all so disappointing, isn’t it? I try to stay focused on the smaller more uplifting stories like this one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ouhURNLsnjo Have a great weekend! xoxo

  22. I can’t wait to read those posts as soon as I finish this comment! I was very “into” the #Doprah interview and what Lance was going to say, or perhaps, how he was going to say it. 5 minutes in, I was already bored and wondered why I was wasting my time. And then a friend reminded me that the real heroes are right here in our neighborhood. And everything came into perspective. Good luck to you over the next 2 days!
