2013: Things that will stay the same

It’s January and most everyone is talking about resolutions and/or intentions for the new year. People are creating goals and visions and getting organized in hopes of making 2013 the best year ever.

While I am doing many of these things (more on that soon), let’s be honest. There are just some things that I have absolutely no intention of changing in 2013.

10 Things I Have No Intention of Changing in 2013

1. Coffee – particularly cafe au lait with WHOLE milk. I know, crazy.

cafe au lait

2. Wine - duh

3. Stupid yoga tricks
I know. I’m not supposed to be doing any more stupid yoga tricks. Largely, I’ve stopped and am not pushing myself beyond my ability. But I continue to be drawn to the yoga challenges and the yoga community, particularly on Instagram. They inspire me. It’s also hard to pull back from something that I feel drawn to right now, that I really want to explore further.

4. Ice cream - Can’t stop. Won’t stop.

5. Scones - See #4.

6. Hiding goodies from Ed and the kids
So terrible but yes, I have a secret stash of favorite goodies – anything from a favorite bar of dark chocolate to ice cream in the freezer (see #4) to Chinese veggie buns.

7. Taking pictures of my feet
Cliche pictures, yes. They drive my husband crazy but I like taking them so I will continue to take them. They remind me that my feet are planted on the ground.

8. Being a pack-rat
I like to keep things – things that have sentimental value, mementos from trips, journals, etc. While my husband may think that I’m just hoarding, I like to think that I’m safeguarding my memories. Plus, it’s also nice to find some surprises every now and then like the stash of old high school swim workouts I found recently. See! I knew that they would come in handy one day!

9. Wearing yoga pants and leggings around town.
I try. Really, I try to follow the What Not to Wear style rules and dress nicely before leaving the house but really? I’d rather be in leggings and yoga pants all day.

10. Instagram
I do intend to try to cut back on the time I spend on social media. But IG? No way.

What are you resolving NOT to give up this year?

  1. What a fun spin on resolution posts. :) This year I’m NOT giving up: green smoothies, training #proof pics, instagram (I love it too!)!

  2. My list includes coffee and saving mementos, too. I just started on Instagram recently, but I love it – I won’t be changing that this year, either!

  3. What a fun concept!! I’m not giving up coffee either. Or chocolate. Or the occasional froyo. Oops–all food-related! ;-) and I take feet pictures too!!! no shame in yo’ game!

  4. I LOVE #7! I will not be giving up coffee, snuggling with my dogs, wine and continuing to try to make leggings an acceptable form of business casual.

  5. I like how you think because it looks like we’ve got a lot in common. I too do not intend to give up coffee anytime soon, especially lattes or gourmet coffee period! I also love wine way too much, especially red! If you like red you need to try menage a trois! Yes I will admit I’m also a hoarder. I’ve gotten better, but there are some mementos that are just worth keeping! I love anything that reminds me of my childhood for instance. To add to your list, I would say I plan to keep my boyfriend around ;) I’m one lucky gal to have him in my life! I also plan to keep chocolate in my life especially molten lava cake!

    • haha. My husband also told me that I needed to add him to my list of things that I’m keeping around. I will have to look for that wine and I can enjoy it with some molten lava cake!

  6. Nicely done list! I’ve discovered a work-around for #9: stretchy skinny jeans. They FEEL just like leggings or yoga pants, but they look like jeans. They’re even fine for trying #3 if you get stretchy enough ones. :)

    • Yay for non-resolutions and there is no way that I’m giving up Healthy Bites. I’ve been in serious withdrawal the past couple of months!

  15. I love your list. I am with you on coffee, wine, and ice cream. All the way! And while I should cut back on my ever-growing collection of minimalist shoes, I won’t! I just love trying new ones out. Thankfully many come via the blog for free!

With regards to scones, have you had clotted cream and jam on a scone?????? Best ever! That, or fresh strawberries.

  36. I will not give up on my blog. There have been a few times over the past few months when I have seriously thought about it but I realized while I was on break over the holidays that I need it. I may not need to write every single day and I may not need the amount of social media that goes with it but I do need it to exist.
Oh and we need to get together and have some ice cream because even though I plan to cut back on my giant, nightly portion…I will NEVER give it up!

  37. What a fun way to look at it! This year I will not stop taking time for myself. I used to feel really guilty about that and not make it a priority, but lately I’ve been enjoying some time to do things *I* like to do. And being more purposeful about protecting that time.

  43. I love your list. Isn’t coffe with whole milk THE BEST? I’ve been stealing WM from the first lady, stuff is creamy goodness. I’m also on board with ice cream and will switch out your scones with madelines. Wine yes, but more likely beer. Keeping your feet plan, but swapping out out yoga pants with running shoes in public.

    Love this!

  44. Great list and love the idea! Things I’m definitely keeping? Coffee (I like mine strong and black), wine (once or twice a week, a glass at a time makes me happy!), working out in the same socks and pants I then train in the rest of the day (let’s be honest – I always forget a fresh pair of socks and leave the house only with the ones on my feet!), and taking self pictures (“Come on, guys – you know it’s for the blog”). ;)

  53. AGH! I LOVE this idea!!! You are SO SO SO right, Christine! Every year, we make a long list of things we want to change…but what about all those things that we don’t want to – whether they are good for us or not?

I don’t plan on changing my nightly bowl of ice cream =) My husband and I split a bowl (with whipped cream and chocolate syrup) after the kids are asleep. I’m sure I’ll eventually get sick of it – but it’s a nice sweet treat at the end of a long day.

PLEASE don’t stop with the yoga poses. I love them!

  59. Lotsa lists include coffee! We are some hopped up bloggers! I’m we’re not changing!
