2013: Things that will stay the same

It’s January and most everyone is talking about resolutions and/or intentions for the new year. People are creating goals and visions and getting organized in hopes of making 2013 the best year ever.

While I am doing many of these things (more on that soon), let’s be honest. There are just some things that I have absolutely no intention of changing in 2013.

10 Things I Have No Intention of Changing in 2013

1. Coffee – particularly cafe au lait with WHOLE milk. I know, crazy.

2. Wine - duh

3. Stupid yoga tricks
I know. I’m not supposed to be doing any more stupid yoga tricks. Largely, I’ve stopped and am not pushing myself beyond my ability. But I continue to be drawn to the yoga challenges and the yoga community, particularly on Instagram. They inspire me. It’s also hard to pull back from something that I feel drawn to right now, that I really want to explore further.

4. Ice cream - Can’t stop. Won’t stop.

5. Scones - See #4.

6. Hiding goodies from Ed and the kids
So terrible but yes, I have a secret stash of favorite goodies – anything from a favorite bar of dark chocolate to ice cream in the freezer (see #4) to Chinese veggie buns.

7. Taking pictures of my feet
Cliche pictures, yes. They drive my husband crazy but I like taking them so I will continue to take them. They remind me that my feet are planted on the ground.

8. Being a pack-rat
I like to keep things – things that have sentimental value, mementos from trips, journals, etc. While my husband may think that I’m just hoarding, I like to think that I’m safeguarding my memories. Plus, it’s also nice to find some surprises every now and then like the stash of old high school swim workouts I found recently. See! I knew that they would come in handy one day!

9. Wearing yoga pants and leggings around town.
I try. Really, I try to follow the What Not to Wear style rules and dress nicely before leaving the house but really? I’d rather be in leggings and yoga pants all day.

10. Instagram
I do intend to try to cut back on the time I spend on social media. But IG? No way.

What are you resolving NOT to give up this year?

I like how you think because it looks like we’ve got a lot in common. I too do not intend to give up coffee anytime soon, especially lattes or gourmet coffee period! I also love wine way too much, especially red! If you like red you need to try menage a trois! Yes I will admit I’m also a hoarder. I’ve gotten better, but there are some mementos that are just worth keeping! I love anything that reminds me of my childhood for instance. To add to your list, I would say I plan to keep my boyfriend around ;) I’m one lucky gal to have him in my life! I also plan to keep chocolate in my life especially molten lava cake!

haha. My husband also told me that I needed to add him to my list of things that I’m keeping around. I will have to look for that wine and I can enjoy it with some molten lava cake!

Yay for non-resolutions and there is no way that I’m giving up Healthy Bites. I’ve been in serious withdrawal the past couple of months!

I love your list. I am with you on coffee, wine, and ice cream. All the way! And while I should cut back on my ever-growing collection of minimalist shoes, I won’t! I just love trying new ones out. Thankfully many come via the blog for free!

Seriously, I think that my husband would be very sad if I gave up coffee, wine or ice cream because that would mean I would be a huge grump!

I flirted with the idea of giving up IG with the whole change in terms of service but just realized that I couldn’t do it.

    • admin says

I don’t crave ice cream as much now either but it’s definitely a staple in my life. My problem is that once I start eating it, I can’t stop!

haha. For similar reasons, my husband is very glad to see coffee on my list of things that I will not change this year.

I think I strained something in my neck trying to analyze the yoga pics. Hmm….I bet it would do wonders for my bedroom play.

Long live YOGA pants (even though I don’t really do yoga. I should…but I don’t)

I will not give up coffee (I look forward to it EVERY morning), baked treats, Pepsi (on weekends), and traveling (I did wonder if I’d done too much this past year because all my holiday time has been away and abroad, and not getting things done at home).

With regards to scones, have you had clotted cream and jam on a scone?????? Best ever! That, or fresh strawberries.

I will not give up on my blog. There have been a few times over the past few months when I have seriously thought about it but I realized while I was on break over the holidays that I need it. I may not need to write every single day and I may not need the amount of social media that goes with it but I do need it to exist.
Oh and we need to get together and have some ice cream because even though I plan to cut back on my giant, nightly portion…I will NEVER give it up!

Yes please, Can we have an ice cream date? I’m glad that you aren’t going to give up your blog. That would make me so very sad.

What a fun way to look at it! This year I will not stop taking time for myself. I used to feel really guilty about that and not make it a priority, but lately I’ve been enjoying some time to do things *I* like to do. And being more purposeful about protecting that time.

So glad that you’re not going to stop taking time for yourself. I feel that’s so important – if you don’t take care of yourself, it’s hard to take care of others.

  7. says

Love it. I remember a photo you posted last week of a stash of shopping bags so without advertising a certain lemon I know what you and I would list as number 11 ;)

I love your list. Isn’t coffe with whole milk THE BEST? I’ve been stealing WM from the first lady, stuff is creamy goodness. I’m also on board with ice cream and will switch out your scones with madelines. Wine yes, but more likely beer. Keeping your feet plan, but swapping out out yoga pants with running shoes in public.

    Love this!

Oh how I hadn’t missed this Listicles…these are great choices too! I’m definitely with you on #2…in fact perhaps I should resolve to increase my consumption from last year! (No, not an alcoholic…I was preggers and TOTALLY missing the wine!)

AGH! I LOVE this idea!!! You are SO SO SO right, Christine! Every year, we make a long list of things we want to change…but what about all those things that we don’t want to – whether they are good for us or not?

I don’t plan on changing my nightly bowl of ice cream =) My husband and I split a bowl (with whipped cream and chocolate syrup) after the kids are asleep. I’m sure I’ll eventually get sick of it – but it’s a nice sweet treat at the end of a long day.

PLEASE don’t stop with the yoga poses. I love them!

I love that you and your husband share a bowl with chocolate syrup and all! That is awesome. Hmmm, maybe I should institute that policy in our house too!

I know! Whole milk! I feel like I need to hide it but I do love it so much in my coffee :-)
The world would feel a bit off if you gave up barre n9ne.

I love this post! I could never give up coffee and I love my tea with milk. And I recently started cooking a few dishes with heavy cream, they are so yummy! I won’t give those up:) Also watching back to back to back episodes of the Office, no matter how many “better” things I could be doing.

Lotsa lists include coffee! We are some hopped up bloggers! I’m we’re not changing!

I am not giving up the vino either, although I did for this month. I am also continuing to dance and to enjoying a ride in the car for fun!
