Growing Together

Bryant Park ice skating rink

The holidays always pass in a flurry and a blur. So much anticipation. So much preparation. A day or two of madness and then it’s done.

In the midst of all the frenzy, I’ve been noticing more and more how holidays and traditions change year-to-year – as I grow older, as my family changes and as my children grow older. They grow along with me and my family – we grow together.

Lately, there’s been a bit more magic, thanks in large part to my children. They remind me to look outside of myself (and all the stress, dread, guilt, etc. that can often come along with holidays) and to see the magic again. I’ve realized that while my role as a parent is to protect, nurture, raise and support my children, my biggest role is to create memories with and for them.

I’m honored to share my story today with Tricia at Raising Humans. Because that’s what this is all about, right? Raising humans and growing together?

Won’t you come over and join me?

  10. I love this – growing together, and how the holidays really do evolve each year. I noticed the same thing this year, more and more it is truly about spending time with my family, not gifts, not any of that. Just togetherneses. The only gifts that are the best are those to my niece :-) I LOVE giving and love spending time together! I am so glad you had such a great holiday!

    • Yes! Just togetherness. That IS what it’s all about, right? So glad that you all had a wonderful holiday and that you and M are growing and creating new traditions together.

  11. Going to read right now! Growing together is so important- I feel like I change so much every single year. I can’t imagine what it’s like watching your own kids grow and change. That’s what it’s all about! :-)
