Friday Round-Up: Tonsils and Chobani

Yup, that’s snow. It’s November. It’s too early. I am completely unprepared for winter.

It’s been so fun celebrating my Blogoversary this week.

{By the way, go enter my Erica Sara Designs giveaway and help raise money for Hurricane Sandy Relief efforts. All you have to do is enter and I will donate $1 for every entry I receive!!!}

I think that I might have been celebrating too much because, alas, I’m sick again. My glands started feeling swollen on Tuesday/Wednesday but by Wednesday night, they hurt. I woke up in the middle of the night because they were so swollen that I felt like they were obstructing my throat. Of course, it was probably 3:30am and I immediately woke up Ed and told him that I had to have my tonsils removed RIGHT.NOW.

Alas, I went to the doctor and I’m on meds. I feel better but know I need more rest. Was this a sign that I need to slow down? Probably.

So this week’s Friday Round-up will be short and sweet.

Stop Judging, Be Kind, and Love Yourself
I loved this post from Heidi about some of her lessons and reflections from her experience at Inspiration and Perspiration in Las Vegas. I think that this quote sums it up: “How in the world am I supposed to live a healthy, happy life when I’m bringing myself down so many moments out of the day?” So true.

Great Expectations: The Kir Corner
Greta runs a great series on her blog called Great Expectations where she invited fellow bloggers over to talk about some of their own expectations. I loved this post from Kir. She talks about the connection between what we “expect” and what we “deserve”. Do you think you expect to much?

Food Guilt – Labeling food “good” and “bad” undermines healthy eating
This is a great post from Tamara and I think she brings up a great point about how our society views food and makes it an emotionally charged issue. Do you label food as “good”, “bad”, “naughty” or “nice”?

Do you run to compete or complete?
Angela raised an interesting question. When you race, do you run to compete or to complete? I think that I tend to publicly say that I just want to complete the race but deep down, I know that I’m competing – against myself, my previous time/pace, that person in front of me. Yeah, I’m kind of competitive. What about you?

Lastly, I wanted to share this video that shows some of the devastation of the Rockaways – a place that means a lot to me. The audio is taken from the voice message from a Rockaway Beach resident. Please watch and then go enter my giveaway to help support Hurricane Sandy relief efforts.

It’s Friday and what better way to end the week than with one final giveaway. Since my throat has been hurting, all I’ve been craving is cool and smoothie foods like green smoothies and yogurt. Thank goodness that the CHO fairies arrived today with a fresh new box.

  41. I hope you are feeling better. I feel bad but I can’t eat greek yogurt. I think if I did, I would be set because it’s so darn good for you with all the protein and low carbs.

So to make up for it, I fill up on a lot of Diet Pepsi and my kids Halloween candy.

As a Jersey girl – I know about the devastation. I hope you and the ones you love are all ok.

    • Thanks Kiran. I’m starting to feel better but I am so terrible about taking care of myself and just resting. I get very restless. haha. As much as I love Greek yogurt and all, my diet has pretty much consisted of diet pepsi and halloween candy too! I’m sick, right?

  42. My favorite way of eating it is straight out of the container!

  43. I like to buy the plain and add my own ingredients for lunch. I also like to add it to my protein smoothies after a workout.

  44. I just love it straight for breakfast. not too original, but it gets the job done at the office and is a great, tasty break.

  45. I love my Chobani for breakfast with chocolate chips and granola. I could not believe the devastation of the Rockaways, my mother used to vacation there as a child and took me when I was a kid.

    • Thanks Jenny. The images from the Rockaways are mind boggling. It has been pretty amazing how people have come together to support folks there and are out there volunteering every day.

  46. I love plain chobani with fresh fruit, chia seeds and granola

  48. Love the apple cinnamon chobani paired with granola and banana slices.

  49. I use Chobani, especially the flavored ones, in SO many of my recipes. Flavored yogurts, even Chobani, have a higher sugar content than plain yogurts, and when you use them in recipes, it’s much healthier. They replace all the unhealthy fats/oils and keep the recipe’s consistency really well. The sugar is distributed throughout the recipe rather than eaten by one person.

The plain is a FABULOUS substitute for sour cream, too. ;)
