Friday Round-up: Gifts and Gratitude

I’m just going to pretend that I’m still on a boat in St. Kitts, relaxing and watching the sunset.

Whoa friends! Between the kids being out of school and half days; clients all resurfacing at the same time needing/wanting something right now; and lingering sickness and a 10 hour stint in the ER Wednesday, these last few weeks have been killing me. (No worries. Everything is fine and I think that they finally figured out and fixed my tonsils. And no, I didn’t have them taken out.)

As you may know, I’m participating in Tina’s Best Body Bootcamp. I’ve been bummed that I haven’t been able to get many workouts in because I LOVE the workouts she has put together for this phase – ladders, isometric holds, cardio bursts – all so good and challenging. I’ve been keeping it easy this week, walking and light cardio if and when I can. But I know that it’s important to get rest and get better. That’s also part of leading a healthy lifestyle, right Tina?

Since I haven’t been able to participate in bootcamp as fully as I would have like and to keep myself motivated over the holidays, I’ve signed up for Amanda’s Holiday Bootie Buster Challenge. Amanda has rounded up some incredible prizes and an awesome panel of experts, including Olympic medalist Deena Kastor, to support us. Sign up now because it starts on November 19th!

Thank you all for your support in my Erica Sara Designs giveaway last week. There were over 170 entries. I mentioned that I would donate $1 to Hurricane Sandy relief efforts for each entry up to $1,000. So while the number of entries translates to over $170, my husband and I have decided to still donate $1,000 – $500 to the Brooklyn Recovery Fund and $500 to Waves for Water - two organizations that are doing great work.

FRIDAY ROUND-UP

I Don’t Speak For The Trees – Pour Your Heart Out
As bloggers, we share stories for many reasons. I love how Shell uses the Lorax as a comparison to bloggers and who we are presumed to speak for even when that’s not necessarily our intention.

No Numbers Runner
There’s so much that I love about Lindsay’s post, mostly because her incredible and giving soul shines through.  We also seem to be on the same page and believe that running is a gift. Are you a runner by the numbers or do you run for other reasons?

What Traditional Marriage Should Be
Kristen hits on so many poignant points in this post about love, growing up and parenting. Kids go through so much while growing up and it often makes me feel like I’m not up for this parenting gig.

Start a Conversation
Meredith’s post really struck a chord with me about raising awareness and spreading the love to fight women’s cancer. She’s included an incredibly powerful video and I urge you all to go and watch it.

To My Body I Promise
Speaking of cancer, I absolutely loved this honest letter than Krysten wrote to her body – her frustrations with her body and her embrace of her imperfections.

Race for Recovery
Lastly, Michele at NYC Running Mama is hosting a virtual Race for Recovery (5K or 10K) to support Hurricane Sandy relief efforts. She’s rounded up over 40 prizes worth over $2,500 and the entry fee is only $20. I just signed up and you should too!

Are you ready for Thanksgiving next week? What’s favorite Thanksgiving dish?

  2. Oh Christine! Please rest up! I hope you are on the mend. 10 hours in the ER – that’s worse than any sickness!

Really great heartfelt posts this week! I need to catch up on a couple.

Have a great weekend, friend, and feel better soon!

    • Thanks my friend. Yes, trying to rest up as much as I can. Amazingly, I was pretty zen about being in the ER that long especially after my phone ran out of batteries at hour 2!!

  3. seriously? you guys rock for donating that much…..you’re amazing!!!! glad your feeling a bit better!

    • Thanks Lindsay! Hits close to home so we want to be able to support the longer term rebuilding efforts. Because it’s going to take a lot.

  4. You are the best for your donation! Way to go. And I’m all in for Michele’s race, too. Love that you both are supporting your local peeps.

Great round-up–I’ve read several of them and will hit the others.

I hope next week brings you health and energy!

    • Thanks Amanda! There wasn’t really a question that we wouldn’t donate that much. Kind of just shifts our yearly donations a bit but this is so important. Hope you have a great weekend!

  5. Very true! I mentioned to another FFA doing BBB that I’m MORE proud of her when she listens to her body than if she pushed through a workout unsafely. ;)

    • Thanks Tina. It’s hard to remember sometimes to listen to your body especially when there’s a plan in front of you and you really really want to do it. But I know that I need to back off and I’m OK with it. Plus, I love having the workouts so that I can go back to them too when I’m better.

  6. you poor woman, poor tonsils! glad you are ok! and i hope you get some “me” time soon. Go sweat it out running and not thinking. hehe.

thanks for all these wonderful links! so many great reads.

    hugs!

  8. That $1000 that you are both donating will truly make a difference. All of the charities we reached out to said at this point the best thing we could donate would be money and/or time. Sandy changed the east coast that so many of us love. It warms my heart to know that your family and my family are among the ones trying to help those out that were less fortunate than us when it hit.

Thank you so much for sharing my post on traditional marriage too. It makes me emotional every time I read the comments. This world has a lot of love in it…if only everyone would allow it to be treated equally.

Happy Friday!!! Hope you are on the mend and can enjoy your weekend!!!

    • Thank you my friend for sharing such a heartfelt post. I think that a lot of charities are being inundated with stuff – some useful, some not – but it’s going to take of long term support. I am on the mend, thanks and hope you all have a great weekend too!

  9. I love this roundup C! So often you introduce me to new and wonderful writers, plus we seem to think the same topics are interesting. You know what? You’re incredible… love ya.. wish we were neighbors beautiful girl. xoxo
