I still can’t seem to wrap my head around the fact that summer is coming to a close. The boys go back to school in about two weeks – two weeks!! Where has the summer gone? I know that I’ve mentioned before how I’m going to focus on all the fun that our family has had this summer and really try to get my good going. But I decided that I needed to take it a step further.
You see, in addition to feeling like I’ve missed out on the summer, I’m tired. Exhausted and burnt out. I’ve overcommitted myself on work projects which has meant a lot more juggling than I necessarily wanted. That’s the beauty of freelance, right? You get to choose your projects and set your schedule…except when you’re like me and terrified that the work won’t come back around so you say “Yes!!” to everything and end up running yourself to the ground. Work has been demanding lately which has meant less time to spend with the boys and to enjoy those little summer moments together.
I also know that I have a wee bit of an addiction to technology and social media. While it scares me a little – OK, quite a bit – I know that it will be good for me to unplug.
There’s a lack of balance in my life right now so I’ve decided to unplug for the rest of the summer and spend the summer as it’s meant to be – beach, pool, playing games with the boys, enjoying delicious summer produce and cooking again, and exploring. I know that I won’t get these moments with my kids back and that I will regret not focusing on them right now.
But don’t worry! I have a great line up of guest bloggers who have graciously offered to help keep the blog full of awesome and insightful posts. Amanda from the MissZippy1 blog will be here Tuesday, Kristen from The Preppy Girl in Pink will play hostess on Wednesday and Carrie from Family Fitness Food will be here Friday. Then next week, Ilene from The Fierce Diva Guide to Life will be taking you through some yoga on Monday, Pavement Runner will take you all for a run on Wednesday, and finally, Kristin from My Mission Impossible will wrap things up on Friday.
You guys are in for a treat. Actually, I’m a little worried that you won’t want me back after Labor Day!!
Have you unplugged in the past? Was it hard or easy for you?
*** P.S. Don’t forget to enter for a chance to win a pair of Mizuno running shoes! Giveaway is open until midnight EST Friday, August 24th. ***

That is a STUNNING image of the summer sky. Even more breathtaking in ‘person’, I’m sure.
It’s wonderful that you’re unplugging and taking the time for your family! I’ll look forward to those guest posts – some great bloggers you’re bringing in!

Have fun and Enjoy your summer! My previous Career was a Network Engineer so completely “Unplugging” is an impossibility for me.. technology is part of my DNA. I do however find morning or some rainy days where i may still be online but it’ll just be for research. The only off time is workouts..so i guess that’s my unplug time.

Beautiful pic of the beach. I’m envious of you “unplug”! I could really use that. Social media is great but it can really be a time suck and make you miss some very, very important moments. Go ENJOY! We’ll be here waiting for you!

I know what you mean! I am totally the same way. I have worked my little butt on in my office and missed a lot of the summer….I refuse to do it again next summer. Winter is coming and it gets COLD up here, so I suppose I will work like a maniac all winter too. Come summer I will need some respite.

This post hit a nerve with me. I have that “wee addiction” to technology too and I spent much of my summer battling my kids to let me stay online for “five more minutes” instead of must letting it go. Ironically, I am finally starting to loosen up and the summer is over. I can’t wait to read the guest posts! Have a great vacation!

I have to take breaks periodically or I let it consume me. I have to remind myself that what is right in front of me is way more important than anything else. I can always get caught up on reading my favorite blogs but I can’t get back the wasted time with my girls. Go enjoy yourself, your husband and your sweet boys!! xo

Those pictures are beautiful. Everyone needs a little break to recharge the batteries and start fresh. It looks as though you’ve planned everything to the wire with your blog & the guest posts. So organized, I wish I was like that! I’m stopping by from SITS, I hope you have a great week.

I applaud your decision to unplug! Sometimes it’s important to reprioritze, even if for a week or two and get refocused on what matters most in our lives! We’ll miss you (of course) but we’ll be here when you get back!
