Get Your Good Going

I have to admit, lately, I’ve been feeling like summer is slipping by – that school’s just around the corner but we haven’t really had a chance to enjoy summer. But then I realized that I didn’t have to think of it that way – I could choose to focus on all the fun, little moments that our family has shared this summer rather than what we haven’t done. It’s funny how that change in perspective and focusing on what’s good can cause an avalanche of positive emotions and feelings.

That’s why I was so excited to hear about Blue Diamond Almond’s “Get Your Good Going” campaign. The mantra of the campaign is something that resonated with me:

We came together as a co-op. A co-op for good. Because when you start something good, it only gets better. Good is in every Blue Diamond Almond we grow. In every snack can and Breeze carton we sell. From Whole Natural to Smokehouse to Wasabi and Soy. From Original to Vanilla to Chocolate. It’s a catalyst. It’s contagious. It branches out into every aspect of our lives. Good is conquering a roller coaster, hanging ten with your nine-year old, hiking half-dome with your fiancée, singing your lungs out and whacking a piñata. Good is a wonderful feeling. A magical feeling. An inspirational feeling. And once it gets going, there’s no stopping what you can do. So grab a can or carton of good and Get Your Good Going.

Good can be found in all areas of our lives. Right now, Blue Diamond Almonds is having a weekly sweepstakes on their Facebook page. You just have to submit a picture showing how you “get your good going” based on that week’s theme. You get a coupon just for participating and there’s a chance to win prizes. CLICK HERE for more details. But hurry up! The contest ends on August 13th!

What gets my good going? My kids – watching them experience things for the first time, seeing them laugh, run and smile, and hearing them giggle. Oh man, those giggles can be infectious and contagious. When they are good and enjoying life, so am I. So I decided to ask my 5-year old son what good means to him.

Birthdays

Sprinklers

Gardening and Farm Fresh Food

Skiing, Sledding and Snow Tubing

Airplanes – Flying on them and playing with them

The Beach

Ice Cream

Brotherly love

I absolutely loved the answers that he came up with because these are the things that make him smile from within.

For me, good is also…

Spending quality time with friends hiking

    • Thanks Chivon! Spending time with family is great, mostly LOL. Seriously, putting this post together made me appreciate things just a bit more.

  12. I’ve been having a lot of the same thoughts lately and keep trying to remind myself that we have a lot of family fun coming up in the next few weeks, going to look forward to that instead of back…great post and great pics!!

    • Thanks Kristin! It is hard to not think about how quickly summer is passing and all the things either we haven’t done or want to do, etc. But, like you said, I realized that it wasn’t worth the time and energy to stress over the things that I couldn’t change and instead focus on making the most of the time ahead of us.

  13. I love this! Especially the part about brotherly love and the boys holding hands! that is soo soo adorable. I love sibling love :-) And you are right, it’s a shift in focus. It’s easy to be sad that summer is slowly slowly fading but it’s NOT, there’s still plenty left!! Enjoy the little moments, I’m doing the very same :)

    • I had a feeling that you would love the sibling love part of this. It’s so damn cute!! It was different for me growing up because my brother and sister were 5 and 7 years older than me. But to see the two of them develop their bond, protect each other and love each other unconditionally, it makes my heart swell. I guess I should savor this before they start beating each other up all the time :-)

Yes, here’s to enjoying every last bit of summer!

  14. Your children are just beautiful! What great pictures. It so sweet to see your boys love each other in these priceless photos. I was just telling my Mom the other day that I am one of those Mom’s who is NOT excited that my kids are going back to school. I cherish our summer days (not every moment of course) but I am always sad that they go back to being gone all day. Thank you for the reminder to be in the moment.

  15. I just died of cute.

  16. You know what I love about this? It brings me joy. That might sound selfish, but I truly, honestly find joy in the happiness and good in others’ lives. It also brings me joy when children show a strong, loving upbringing – especially so young. Your boys are gorgeous…and they remind me so much of my girls. They love each other so deeply as little girls, and I pray that they continue that for as long as they live. They love each others’ company. They prefer to play together rather than alone, and they are so incredibly tender and loving…and you can see that in your boys as well.

By the way…your smile says it all…and this is something I absolutely love about you.

    • Your comment brings a huge smile to my face. Thank you. Truly, when I see my kids smile from within, it just makes my heart swell. My boys definitely love playing together (mostly) but it’s that bond that really gets me. I never really experienced that with my brother or sister who are 7 and 5 years older than me. I grew closer to my sister after college but it’s different seeing that relationship develop from the very beginning.
